Bette Davis plays Bette Davis not once but twice in this over-the-top memoir of a sister who kills and then replaces her twin. The result is a thoroughly far-fetched and yet somewhat predictable thriller that succeeds in being a vast amount of fun.

Karl Malden and Peter Lawford enjoy out the cast, but the film belongs to Davis, and she clearly relishes the film’s every excess, owning the script like a tailor-made gown. Indeed, noteworthy of the pleasure in watching Uninteresting RINGERS is the fun of seeing Davis play with such diminutive restraint, and the movie makes exercise of every Davis mannerism imaginable.

Helena is riddled with guilt over her scandalous words and falls asleep one night, and wakes up in a world of muted colors and magical creatures. The first complaint misses the point completely. The whole point of the myth is that it is ARCHETYPAL. It deals with fundamental human issues of identity, growth, shaded and light, valid and noxious. To complain that an archetypal fable is unoriginal is like complaining that an apple doesn’t taste like an orange. To have completely unrelated expectations is to be disappointed.

The second complaint is once again an exclaim of counterfeit expectations. A distinction must be made between film as pure entertainment and film as pure art. These two genres sometimes co-exist, of course, and there is a spectrum in between. Yes, this is a visual movie. It is self-consciously a movie intended to present film-making as a visual art, which it first and foremost is. When appreciating a painting, is the central shriek the painter’s choice of subject matter? No, it is technique, execution, mood, conclude. Who decided film is only successful or gracious if the site entertains us sufficiently? Seems to me that is rather a shallow, provincial and self-absorbed viewpoint.

For goodness’ sake, leave your expectations and preconceptions at the door and fair salvage this movie offering at face value. Complaining about what it isn’t (and isn’t meant to be) is pointless and a extinguish of everybody’s time. this dvd is more like a television indicate than a movie. its a bunch of short movies. its kinda like that spike jonz dvd. i liked most of the movies. they were different and not what i expected. once i understood what was going on, it was a lot more humorous. if this guy fd ever makes a feature it will be fair trippy. i treasure the gorilla style`footage. some nice shots in the ny subways and around the city. silly stuff. very creative kids. i could inspect this getting huge. will win the next fdtv dvd when released.

I agree, this movie could have been better… but then again, can’t everything be better? I don’t know what that guy means by saying none of the movies were droll. Are you crazy? This movie is hilarious! I agree, some of it is slapstick comedy, but it is definately something different. Did you not seek through the whole DVD? FD was in high school when he made some of the movies! This is an independent movie. It is not a multi-million dollar Hollywood movie. I don’t search for how you could give this DVD 1 star. This movie was comic for what it was worth. My 19 year used son found most parts of the DVD funnier than me. I really reflect this kid FD did a kindly job though. I’ll be looking out for the next volume.

In the hands of this PERFECT cast (with terrific attend by C. Aubrey Smith, a young David Niven, and Mary Astor) “Zenda” becomes a stylish account of care for, intrigue, and derring-do. High points include an astonishingly elegant Royal Ball, where Colman and Carroll say their love; a very comic yet menacing meeting between Colman and Fairbanks, as they discuss the genuine King’s potential fate; and best of all, a Exquisite climactic swordfight between the pair, as they stagger and parry furiously through the halls of a castle, while exchanging quips and one-liners about a British education!

MGM, in their 1952 remake, tried to surpass the earlier version by creating a technicolor ’scene-for-scene’ duplicate of the film, utilizing some of their biggest stars, and reworking Alfred Newman’s modern musical bag. The demolish result, however, was a mixed bag…

Stewart Granger, MGM’s resident 50s swashbuckler, certainly was more athletic than Colman, but lacked the older actor’s panache, and more importantly, ‘The Voice’, that distinctive, oft-imitated but never duplicated speaking screech that made Ronald Colman so current. While Deborah Kerr was as regally pleasing as Madeleine Carroll, she lacked Carroll’s fragile quality, which made the doomed adore so heartbreaking. Robert Douglas was safe as Sunless Michael, but James Mason, as Rupert of Hentzau, was miscast in the role. While a colorful actor, Mason was too traditional, and actually TOO villainous! While Rupert is jaded and unscrupulous, he also has to be such a young, likable scoundrel that his dash, after the climactic duel, disappoints no one, not even the hero he nearly defeats, which ideally helpful the cocky, younger Fairbanks. Seeing a malevolent Mason dash ‘justice’ seems unfair!

David Niven, in his autobiography, said he understanding MGM’s remake was a ridiculous concept, and that he was contented that the newer production, even as a scene-for-scene copy, failed. While I contemplate he was, perhaps, too hard on the Granger film, which is quiet piquant, I have to agree that it doesn’t even advance cessation to the magic of Ronald Colman’s 1937 classic!

But better yet, potential buyer…At this terrific mark, you can consider for yourself!

I am a tall fan of epics/adventure films…thing like Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Ben-Hur, Lord of the Rings…and I have been waiting for this DVD for years!

The 1937 version of “The Prisoner of Zenda” is one of my approved films ever…it’s one of the very few movies that both generations of my family relish. A magnificent yarn with fairly salubrious action scenes, witty dialogue, and a nobility slow the events and characters which manages to flee being corny or old. The characters are cast to perfection (Douglas Faribanks Jr. IS Rupert of Hentzau–this is, essentially, his defining role) and most of the actors would continue to play roles with similar personalities throughout their careers. The coronation scene (using Handel’s “Peep Now the Conq’ring Hero Comes” from Judas Maccabaeus) is particularly essential.

The 50’s version is almost a scene-for-scene remake, but with foul actors, totally fake-looking sets (truly idiotic…Brigadoon-esque), and absurd ‘humorous’ additions to the script sprinkled throughout.

Buy this for the fresh film; the state is aloof worth it.

Oh, and, the unique is even better.

4) The commentary is awesome. Adam and Burt have a mammoth chemistry and really seem to care for both the movie and the explain. Their tongues are firmly in their cheeks druing the commentary (Adam West’s views on Bruce Wayne alone are worth the brand of admission), but you will learn about the production and such secrets as:

The team at Fox had a lot of treasure for this movie and it shows. Bewitch this DVD and regain Fox to release some series episodes with Adam, Burt, Julie Newmar (Catwoman) and Frank Gorshin (Riddler) doing commentary!

Who knew that the campy 1960s’ win on the dim superhero Batman would age so well? 39 years later, “Batman: The Movie” detached is wholly delicious even for the most adrent Batman fan.

The situation of the film is paperthin. Batman (Adam West) and his sidekick, Robin (Burt Ward), are out to thwart the four most risky villians in Gotham: Catwoman (Lee Meriwehter), The Joker (Cesar Romero), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith) and The Riddler (Frank Gorshin, who recently left us, sadly) from taking over Gotham. To lure Batman into a trap, they kidnap Batman’s secret identity, Bruce Wayne. This is more or less all the location there is. There’s also somehing about destroying people with a dehyrdator, but other than that, there’s no genuine location. And that’s the film’s charm.

It’s a sizable fragment of 1960s’ nostalgia. The “holy (insert random word or phrase here), Batman” schtick is serene hilarious, and the cast is clearly enjoying themselves. The extras for the dvd are surpisingly savory. The commentary is awesome and the other extras advise, but it’s the movie that is really worth watching.

This was a series that befriend in it’s debute was in terms of animation style second only to Batman the sharp series. This looked really beneficial. Also the clever mix of action and comedy ensured that this would appeal to all audiences.

The fable tedious this dvd is that Dr. Wily and his robots are consistantly developing plans to conquer the world. Wilys well-known three robots are Cutsman, Gutsman, and Protoman. Each episode also features one or more guest robots who support Wily. Generally its Snakeman or Bombman, but we do earn to recognize characters through game 5 of the series.

One of the greatest aspects of the series was the opening sequence. This alone is easily one of the best seen out there with a catchy tune and lots of action to promise what will be seen.

This dvd features the first half of the entire series and is worth picking up. I am not giving it five stars however due to the fact that there are no special features at all on this dvd. However at a three DVD location with the first half of the series you can’t go imperfect.

Sure, you kids have your fancy-schmancy Megaman: NT Warrior (or Battle Network Rockman.Exe for you darned Japanophiles) with its high-tech computer graphics and its God Almighty budget animation, but when I was a kid, I had the Loyal Megaman cartoon to survey. And frankly, I feel you’re all deprived.

Y’see, the new Megaman cartoon had in its favor an unidentifiable charm to it, a charm that anime usually lacks. While Megaman: NT Warrior may have a running storyline, the modern cartoon had the basic US cartoon premise of “unpleasant guy attacks, genuine guy smacks awful guy, cue canned laughter, roll credits”; a feature that I feel we should examine more of. While I luxuriate in coherent storytelling, sometimes I unbiased want to sit down and seek something I *know* is humdrum. Sometimes I wanna look laughably abominable jokes and mindless moving violence. Sometimes I want to observe goofy robots accept their titanium backsides handed to them while watching the hero compose sarcastic comments about fair how awesome he really is at doing his job. You certainly won’t accumulate THAT in your anime, kiddies.

Sure, it’s not exactly always good to the games, but who are we to complain? It’s not as if the games were literary masterpieces to start with, so one shouldn’t hope for Shakespeare when watching this, or any other cartoon for that matter.

I highly suggest this DVD, people; it’s got fair-to-great animation, enormous order acting done by the Ocean group, and many, MANY unpleasant jokes that’ll originate you roll in laughter for the horrible reasons. Also, they made Roll hot. What’s there to lose?
